Mechanical Properties of Skin Wounds after Atropa Belladonna Application in Rats

چکیده
Atropa belladonna is a topical agent used in the treatment of skin wounds in Slovak folk medicine. The aim of this study was to asses the effect of A. belladonna extract on wound tensile strength in Sprague-Dawley rats. Twenty four rats were randomly divided into 3 groups of 8 animals. Two symmetrical skin incisions were performed on the back of each animal and immediately sutured. In the 1 group A. belladonna extract was not applied and the group served as a control. The animals in the 2 group were treated by daily application of A. Belladonna extract during the first two days after surgery. The animals in the 3 group were treated during all five days after surgery. The wound tensile strength of each group was measured 120 hours after surgery. A separate group of 14 rats was used to measure the tensile strength of unwounded skin. The mean tensile strength of both A. belladonna extract treated groups (2 group: 244±48 g; 2.09±0.42% of unwounded skin; 3d group: 254±67 g; 2.18±0.58% of unwounded skin) was significantly higher (p<0.05) than the untreated group (1 group: 194±31 g; 1.67±0.26 % of unwounded skin). Results from our investigation suggest a positive effect of A. belladonna on aseptic surgical skin wound healing

Previously, we found that treatment of cutaneous wounds with Atropa belladonna L. (AB) revealed shortened process of acute inflammation as well as increased tensile strength and collagen deposition in healing skin wounds (Gál et al. 2009). To better understand AB effect on skin wound healing male Sprague-Dawley rats were submitted to one round full thickness skin wound on the back. In two exper...

The effect of Atropa belladonna L. (AB) aqueous extract on skin wound healing was studied in male Sprague-Dawley rats subjected to two parallel full-thickness skin incisions on the back. Specimens for histological evaluation were collected on days 2 and 5 whereas for biomechanical testing, they were collected on day 5. In the in vitro study, a different concentration of AB extract was used to t...

Introduction: Positive effects of topical application of honey on open skin wounds have been observed, Mast cell are playing role in normal wound healing and its disturbances but the role of mast cells in wound healing in existence of honey is uncertain. Objective: The aim of this investigation was to study the effects of two times per day topical application of honey on the number of mas...

The Solanaceae plants produce a variety of interesting biologically active products including the steroid alkaloids solanidine, nicotine and tropane alkaloids. Putrescine N-methyltransferase (PMT) is an enzyme that catalyses s-adenosylmethionine-dependent methylation of putrescine in one of the primary steps of nicotine and tropane alkaloids biosynthesis pathway. Two tobacco members of the AP2/...

Background & Aim: A. belladonna (family: Solanaceae) is one of important pharmaceutical plants which contain tropane alkaloids. Tropane alkaloids are distinct group of secondary metabolites of the Solanaceae family. The most important alkaloids of A. belladonna are atropine and hyoscine that are used extensively because of their medicinal properties. There...
